Original Joes

When I was talking with the crew about this article, Casey said I had to put Original Joes on the list. In fact, “awesome food and drink!” was what he said and I have to say I agree. They have a great variety of food and drink specials throughout the week. No matter which location in Edmonton you choose, you’ll find a great vibe there. It’s fun and casual – a terrific place to enjoy the game or just hang out with a group of friends.

Menu recommendations:

  • Big fan of the Chicken Gyoza and the Dill Pickle Wings are must-have
  • Try the Grilled Cheese Burger – it really is as delicious as it sounds (I added jalapenos to mine)
  • I love the margaritas here (note: the drink menu can vary by location)

Craft Beer Market

With a huge variety of beers, ales and lagers, the Craft Beer Market downtown is like a mecca for the brew-obsessed. This is the perfect place If you’re looking for a casual and friendly locale. Get ready to taste some exceptional craft beers with their impressive food options (including a plant-based selection). With daily features for any day of the week, you’re sure to find the perfect time to check this patio out. Oh, and it’s family-friendly!

Menu recommendations:

  • The Kung Pao Lettuce Wraps did not disappoint
  • The Chili Prawn Fettuccine = delectable
  • The Capital City Lager pale ale was the perfect choice

Black Dog Freehouse

Another Whyte Ave favourite, the Black Dog’s rooftop patio is an awesome choice for a night of drinks and dancing. Of course, the Black Dog Freehouse calls it their Wooftop Patio but don’t let the puns fool you. The garden setting is a delight and there’s a different special for each night of the week.

Now, this is a bar, not a pub which means they don’t have a food menu. So get your favourite highballs and have a great night!

Central Social Hall

The Central Social Hall is the perfect place for a night out with friends. The patio is huge and has plenty of umbrellas, so you can sit outside and enjoy the patio without roasting. Happy hour runs from 3 pm – 6 pm, Monday – Saturday, with another going from 9 pm to close, Monday – Thursdays. This family-friendly summer patio also has a kid’s menu and some fantastic brunch offeriings.

Menu recommendations:

  • The ‘Berta Sushi Rolls are a must-try for any sushi fan
  • Had to try the Ronald burger, which placed #17 on ratings from The Tomato, and deservedly so
  • The Sweet Basil Lemonade was so refreshing (no alcohol) and the Central Caesar had the perfect amount of punch

Beer Revolution

Set up as a craft beer and pizza bar, Beer Revolution creates a whole experience for its clientele. 24 taps that change regularly, premium pizzas, and a love of rock and roll. They’ve got specials all week, so get ready for a fabulous experience at this place!

Menu recommendations:

  • The Con Queso Dip is one of the best ways to start your night here
  • The Everyday Normal Guy pizza was done to perfection
  • Ask your server for their beer recommendation; there were so many to choose from (but the bellini was also delicious!)

Fairmont Hotel MacDonald

Another downtown entry on this list, the Fairmont Mac Patio is an absolute delight. With amazing views – like the Muttart Pyramids and the river valley – this patio is open daily with super comfy seating and a memorable atmosphere. Enjoy your amazing meal and then wander through the gardens.

Menu recommendations:

  • Loved the Crispy Cauliflower appy
  • The Alberta Beef Burger was perfect, paired with the onion rings
  • Shared the Signature Sticky Toffee Pudding with hubs, but he didn’t get much

The Buckingham

This is a favourite of another content creator here – Mark and his lady, but I’ve never been so I’ll have to add it to my own list! The Buckingham on Whyte Ave features an all-vegan menu and it’s loaded. There’s live music on Thursdays, Tuesdays has “sh*itty margaritas” and crunchwraps on special, all buck Caesars on Sundays, and more!

Menu recommendations:

  • The Fried Chickn Basket is super good, with hand-cut fries and gravy
  • The Corn Dog and Fries is a staple
  • Tempura Green Beans is a great start to your order

Rebel Food and Drink

Rebel Food and Drink is a part of the Century Hospitality Group – and they like to stand out. A restaurant and a lounge, they’re family-friendly until 9 pm and offer one of the best brunch menus you’ll find on the weekends, which is why they are one of our favourite summer patios in Edmonton. Wine Wednesdays offers guests half-off wine (bottles and taps) and there are always some fantastic feature menu items to check out.

Menu recommendations:

  • Try the Vintage Benedict if you’re going for brunch
  • The Sonny Boy pizza was a big hit
  • The Strawberry Lime Drop was soooooo good

Summer is just getting started and you can enjoy some great times at these summer patios in Edmonton. Fall comes sooner than we’d like and as temperatures start cooling and patios begin to close, you’ll wish you enjoyed them when you had a chance!
