One of the best perks of living in Calgary is easy access to some of Canada’s top restaurants. You’ll find a broad variety of cuisine options for all tastes, so there’s something delightful no matter what you’re craving. You’ll find some of the best food available in the city by checking out some of these Calgary restaurants that may be lesser-known, yet are still fantastic.

Mondays Plant Cafe

208 4 Street NE

An older restaurant in a brand-new location, Mondays Plant Cafe has reopened in its new Bridgeland location. Formerly found in Kensington (where it was known as Raw Eatery & Market), the newly-rebranded Mondays Plant Cafe serves an assortment of raw, plant-based foods including sushi, lasagne, pad thai and even spaghetti and meatballs.  If you can’t make it there in person, you can also order online or find them via Skip The Dishes.

Empanada Queen

4-4412 Manilla Road SE

If you’re in the mood for Latin American food, Empanada Queen is well worth a look. It’s a family-owned restaurant that serves Chilean-influenced food including sandwiches, salads and of course, Empanadas. They use only fresh ingredients and can customize any order to suit your needs.  You can order from Empanada Queen directly online from their website, or drop by when they’re open every weekday from 10 am-6:30 pm, or 10 am-6 pm on Saturdays.

Grumans Delicatessen

230 – 11th Ave SE

Established in 2005, Grumans Delicatessen is a family-run Jewish deli with two locations (Downtown and Brittania) that serves authentic deli food from recipes handed down through the generations. Some of the dishes on offer include verenikes, latkes, knishes, roasted beef brisket and cabbage rolls. Grumans offers a selection of delivery options – you can order from Doordash or Skip the Dishes from their Downtown location, or from Skip the Dishes from their Brittania location.

Native Tongues Taqueria

235 12 Ave. S.W

Native Tongues offers top Mexican dishes, with many selections grilled. This restaurant offers all-day taco specials on Tuesdays, piquing interest in many other offerings. Some popular choices include appetizers of corn topped with mayo, queso, lime and cilantro, confit pork and white onion tacos and family-style grilled chicken. You can even order a burger, grilled to perfection. They also offer take-out and delivery, if you’re wanting to enjoy some fantastic Mexican at home.

Orchard Restaurant

134, 620 – 10 Ave SW 

Located just outside the Downtown core, Orchard Restaurant is the destination for plant-lovers who want a fine-dining, Asian-Mediterranean experience. With over 100 plants lining the walls and dozens of chandeliers, it makes for a truly unique setting.  Their menus offer traditional lunch and dinner fare, often with an Asian-inspired twist. They don’t offer any delivery options online, but you can book an event or reserve a table through their website.

Rouge

1240 8 Ave. S.E.

This delightful little restaurant brings regional French favourites to Calgary. all inside a restored Victorian house that offers plenty of old-fashioned charm. Rouge features a garden you can walk through where the owners grow fresh vegetables used in the dishes – they also have beehives! You can make a reservation online or give them a call to book your table.

Ten Foot Henry

1209 1 St. S.W.

Okay, so Ten Foot Henry features an open-kitchen concept, along with lots of wood, concrete, and marble making up the decor for a hip look, including a 10-foot woodcut figure in the dining room. The owners have taken an approach where they offer their customers choice meals they’d eat themselves at home. The tasty contemporary options here are based on fresh vegetable-focused choices with fun, family style dining.

Tokyo Station

1505 15th Ave SW

Part of the Tokyo Street Market family (which also includes Kinjo Sushi and Ke Charcoal Grill), this newly-opened restaurant and market offers a wide selection of Japanese foods, snacks and groceries. It’s inspired by the wares you’d find at JR Station in Tokyo. Tokyo Station is open daily from 11 am to 10 pm, and deliveries are available through Skip the Dishes and Doordash.
